About B4OC

Our vision and aim is to deliver true, future-proofed high-speed broadband for our community of Piltown & Fiddown. This will be a network in which our community is invested. Given that laying fibre-optic cable is expensive, using the traditional model employed by the telecommunications industry, it is our belief that the costs can be greatly reduced under a different ownership, a leaner development model and by operating on a not-forprofit community-owned basis.

Through funding made available by Kilkenny Leader Partnership, Piltown Community Enterprise put  together a steering committee (Better Broadband for Piltown) to investigate the viability of installing our own community fibre broadband infrastructure. Following the success of an Expression of Interest survey among the community, the group carried out an extensive feasibility study to establish the ways and means to build our own FTTH network.

In June 2020 the committee formed a board and registered as its own legal entity, Broadband 4 our Community, Company Limited by Guarantee (B4OC C.L.G.). This board is comprised of local volunteers who meet every week (often through video conferencing) to coordinate funding and labour strategies to make this vision a reality.
